The role of the Jewish woman, teacher or mother, is an integral part of a child’s Jewish education. In fact, she is the most important and consistent denominator to her child’s Jewish identity. The Jewish woman’s depth of Torah knowledge and her understanding of the Jewish people’s national mission, are values she must embody and pass down to the next generation.
To continue this legacy, Jewish education for women must be an absolute requirement. No compromise on this can be accepted. A Jewish child will be dedicated to Judaism and to God parallel to how deeply his or her mother will be committed to Torah thought and law. That commitment comes from a continued and consistent study of Torah. It must be a constant in a woman’s lifetime.
Other good roads that express devotion to God will also manifest themselves as a result of Torah study, including charity and good works to the community. However, all good deeds are based and founded first in Torah knowledge and so this scholarship supports and acknowledges the deep importance to a women’s continued education in Torah study.
